What Do We Believe?
The Christian Faith is so very simple, yet so very deep. Each of us can find strength and direction in life from what Jesus Christ has to offer us. Below is a summary of the important points of belief that we hold at Delaware Run Wesleyan.
Our Faith Outlook
One of the churches that became part of the Wesleyan church used to have a saying: "In Essentials; Unity, in Non-Essentials; Liberty, in All Else; Charity."
Our doors at Delaware Run Wesleyan are open to everyone. We have our core beliefs, but we also have room to explore our faith. Our Bible Studies are times to hammer out what we believe and share our common experience. Everyone can learn and everyone can contribute. There is a place for you in our family!
Our Core Beliefs
The Nature of God
We believe there is one God, Yahweh, creator of all things. We believe in the Triune nature of God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe God is a personal loving God who is always reaching out to his people to build a relationship with each one of them.
Salvation Through Faith
We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that He died to save us from our sins against God. By believing in His death for you and asking for forgiveness for your sins you are saved. By sharing your your decision, and seeking God's plan for you, you establish a life-giving relationship with Him that leads to eternal life.
God's Word
We believe that the Bible is God's Word to mankind. It contains everything God wants us to know to have a relationship with Him and to guide us through this life. We believe it is inerrant in it's original autographs.
Personal Holiness
We believe that God hates sin because it steals us away from Him. God's desire for us is to live as sin free as possible. This is not done so much by following a bunch of rules but by having a relationship with God and allowing His Holy Spirit to guide and direct you.
Other Important Beliefs
Worship
We believe that worship is a beautiful and powerful way to fellowship with God. Worship should be respectful yet enjoyable. Many people get up in arms about the type of music in a worship service. Worship isn't about you, it's about God.
Ministry to Children
We believe that helping children find Christ at a young age will spare them from heart ache and grief over bad decisions that they would otherwise make. We want to teach them about God and His ways so that they can make that decision at an early age.
Community Involvement
We believe that as Christians we must be connecting with our community. Meeting needs, sharing others troubles, and helping as God enables us to. Our ministries and meetings are designed for everyone and we want all to feel welcome when they come.
Gender Identity
We believe God created male and female. We believe that the worlds view of many genders departs from God's perfect design. We want to encourage those struggling with gender identity to look to God for answers and trust Him to give them the right perspective.
